Made it here fine and then walked the city and through their big park. Went to the big museum and spent some time learning about the Maori culture. Lasted until about 5 before having my first NZ beer. Found a great spot called Brew Quay. 102 varieties of beer and most from NZ. Very nice.
At first glance, things seem a bit expensive here. Probably because when you see something with a $ sign, you think American. The NZ$ is about 70% of US$. The other thing is that their tax is already included in the price and there is no expectation of tipping. Therefore a $10NZ item in a bar or restaurant is really about $5.50US. Makes me feel better.
Took a ferry to Rangitoto, which is deserted volcanic island (actually everything here is volcanic). Climbed to the top and got some great pictures of Auckland. See pictures from the top.
Stayed at the Hilton (because I had points for free rooms), but it turned out to be a fantastic place to stay. Will post some pictures from breakfast this morning.
